Mentoring & coaching
Coaching and mentoring relationships help continually improve your performance.
A mentor is usually an experienced manager who helps you review your experiences in a confidential and supportive environment. Acting as facilitator and advisor, your mentor is there to encourage and support you - answering any questions, helping build your self-confidence and providing a sympathetic ear. This is often a useful form of support as you adjust to business life.
Contact managers
Based in our operating companies, contact managers co-ordinate your placements. They have overall responsibility for ensuring you enjoy a rounded training programme and act as informal mentors and a regular point of contact for you. Part of their role is to conduct development reviews, making sure you gain the skills and experience needed for a management role at the end of your training.
Junior manager forums
Each function either has or is developing a forum in which trainees and junior managers can regularly meet.
These provide opportunities to develop your knowledge of areas outside your day-to-day role. They’re a chance to find out about issues from the wider corporate world and learn about new ideas and trends – both within Unilever and externally. They also provide a great opportunity to meet colleagues from across the business and exchange ideas, share experiences, get contacts and make friends.
