How it all started
- Francesco Bertolli and his wife Caterina began producing and selling olive oil in 1865 from their small shop in Lucca, Tuscany.
- Bertolli olive oils were launched in the UK in 2001 and are now available in three varieties including Delicato, Extra Vergine and Gentile. The launch was accompanied by the ‘Olive oil barons’ television advertising campaign and continued with the sprightly Italian grannies ad in 2002 – which featured Italy’s and Bertolli’s great gusto for life.
- In 2003 a wide range of culinary products were launched, based on Italian home cooking and Mediterranean living. These included a wide range of pasta sauces and a spread with olive oil. Bertolli’s pesto and pasta sauces get more popular every year.
- In 2005 Bertolli launched its Rustico range of four sauces bursting with intense flavour and the finest roughly cut vegetables and herbs all made with Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
