For any occcasion
The sandwich is a dish we can never get tired of. It's always something that can be reinvented over and over again. So whether you fancy a gourmet delight such as a black-olive and Feta ciabatta or a comforting bacon bite on sliced white, the variations are endless.
Time saving ideas
It's time to make mornings a little easier: here are some time-saving ideas when preparing family sandwiches.
Freeze-aheads
Make sandwiches you can pull right out of the freezer and pop into a lunch bag. Take your sandwich out of the fridge 30 minutes before you eat it. Bread tastes fresher and has a much better texture at room temperature than when cold.
One ingredient a sandwich will certainly never tire of is Hellmann's Mayonnaise. For a flavour-packed twist to your sandwich, try livening up the mayonnaise by mashing in some herbs or a pinch of dried chilli flakes. Or try Hellman's Dijon to add a mustard-seeded buzz.
Self-assembly sandwiches can make your lunch box more exciting. Try packing the bread roll, filling and extras such as pickles separately then you can have a mini picnic at your desk - or even better, in your nearest park.
Rather than eating your way through the same loaf day after day, buy a varied selection of different rolls and keep them in the freezer. Pull out the one you fancy in the morning. Bread doesn't take long to defrost and frozen rolls can be sawn through with a small serrated knife if you're really in a hurry.
Get organised
Prepare your fillings the night before but do not make the whole sandwich – unless you like them soggy. Just quickly throw everything together before you leave in the morning. Another idea is to tuck moist ingredients into the centre of the sandwich, within slices of meat or cheese so they're not in direct contact with either the top or bottom piece of bread.
