Marmite’s St Patrick’s Day special
Raise your glasses, Marmite lovers… for the first time ever the iconic spread has joined forces with another cult brand to change its own formula.
To mark St Patrick’s Day on 17 March, strictly limited-edition black and white jars have been launched, designed to resemble a pint of Guinness creamy stout – an Irish institution.
With just 300,000 made, they’ve been flying off the shelves fast. In fact these collectable jars are in such short supply that they’ve been selling on eBay for far more than their recommended retail price of £2.49 each.
My mate Guinness
It’s taken over 100 years but the arrival of Guinness Marmite has been well worth the wait. The two acquired tastes are perfect mates – both much loved (and admittedly sometimes hated) for their unique flavour and heritage.
And when it comes to their top secret recipes, Guinness and Marmite have something else in common, both having yeast as a key ingredient. Marmite’s main component is a blend of different brewers’ yeasts but, for this very special version, 30% of the mix comes from a strain of yeast exclusive to Guinness. The result is a subtle, but distinctive Guinness flavour, without the alcohol.
Marmite’s famous lovers
In the past Marmite has leant its inimitable flavour to products such as Walker’s crisps, Fudge’s biscuits and a special menu by Michelin-starred TV chef Gary Rhodes, which even included Marmite cocktails.
But changing its own formula is a true first for the spread and it’s proving to be an instant hit with Marmite lovers snapping up the rare one-offs in their droves. Get yours before they all go!
